A drone fly (Eristalis pertinax) on American skunk-cabbage (Lysichiton americanus).

Thanks for the comments on my Squirrel post. Much apprieciated  .

Heres a macro photo taken a few weekends ago when we had superb weather. Taken with a Canon 7D and EF 100mm f/2.8L IS macro USM lens. Techs: ISO400, f/16, 1/100th sec. Canon 430EX II flashgun on hotshoe and Apollo softbox. Handheld with about 15% cropped off the image. I only used noise reduction on the background to stop smearing the details in the leaf and insect.

I hope you like it, but c&c's welcome.

Thanks,

Paul.

This is a great image Paul, Love the composition, the lines of the foreground leaf and the veining in the out of focus leaf in the background lead the eye to the subject which is beautifully in focus and sharp. The detail and warm tones of the fly keep it focal.

I agree with all Deanne has said. I also love the lace detail in the wing pattern which is complemented by the vein pattern in the leaf.
Kind regards

Maggie

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm glad you liked it! :) I'm enjoying macro photography a lot and I'm looking forward to capturing more species this summer.

Thanks,

Paul.
