Dioryctria sylvestrella

This picture was taken about six years ago, the small Moth was only giscovered in Britain in 2001 in Dorset where this was taken.

I was running traps for Speckled footman (one of Britains rarest moths) at an undisclosed site in Dorset, I did record one that night and photographed it before releasing and will post a picture another time. The shot was taken at about 11pm with light from two speedlights

and the 125w mercury vapour light used for trapping the moths.

...there's no such thing in Nature. I only supply a limited amount of food in my garden, and space is limited too. This is what happens when a new male shows up at the wrong time. I'm pretty sure they're both males from behaviour.

Through a rather grubby window and backlit, and not enough light for a fast shutter speed, so not good enough for critique, but I thought a couple of pictures might interest a few of you.

Barn owl at last

Hi All

I was on a visit to the Salisbury Plain Training Area to take pictures of the military helicopters exercises but at approx. 5pm this Barn Owl appeared briefly and I managed a few frames, this is approx. 2/3rds of the frame and any tighter crop would have been rubbish because the bird is so small in the frame

However I was pleased to have seen it and managed a few images worth keeping.

Bit busy

Hiya,

Just a note from me to say sorry John and I are not around much at the moment, our bungalow refurb project is in its final manic stages so all my spare time is being consumed by flooring fittings and fixtures.

Its been an exciting week as suddenly the building site actually looks like a potential garden again through ground levelling work , the relocation of a summerhouse and the start of my patio all starting to come together and inside paint is going on walls!

We're aiming to move in sometime in June after which time things should be a bit calmer and we'll be back here much more again....

For those interested renovation updates are at www.narcottage.co.uk

Hello!

Hi,

Just arrived here, although I've known of it's existance for some time. Just needed some gentle nudging from Glenn Haworth for me to join the ranks

Although I love all forms of nature photography, any subjects that please my eye are targets. I'm concentrating on improving my macro shots at the moment and have just purchased an off camera bracket and built some diffusers, so expect to see me lurking in the macro section!

Love the look of the site and will be posting up some shots very soon.

Oh and a big Hi to John Stuart-Clarke, long time no see, hope you are keeping well.

Andy
